The heralds have been play testing a new skill called BODYGUARD. This is a new skill that allows the player to do something similar to RAGE but as a defender/protector.
As of now, the skill is written as...
Bodyguard Fighter/Cleric 5exp May defend an ally with a shield when mortally wounded. May not strike at any player and must maintain three points (2 legs and 1 arm) on the ground. Enemies can still come up and finish you off.
Possible revisions... - Will this be confusing? Will people just think they are on the ground and still fighting? - Could the skill be rewritten to let the player stay on their feet and take hits/protect someone? - Should they announce something, like "DEFEND"?
Please discuss and vote!

I like this idea, but I feel that a bodyguard should still beabele to use a sword in some way maybe they could have to take the catchers stance (one kneeboarding down one leg back) and can not advance on any one?

Once again, stating from the sidelines as I watch you guys, it really doesn't make sense. If I were to see a bodyguard, I would expect them to defend and attack. A bodyguard is a suppose to protect someone... A guy who can only use a shield and still be finished off, is really just something to be steamrolled over. If the idea can be rewritten to stay on thier feet and take hits to protect someone, would be a lot better.
About the only thing I can suggest, to stay on the feet, is something you guys do with Divine Barrier. After the person does use this ability, they could pretty much only move as far away from the person as they can stretch their arms out (Notice, they don't have to use their hands, it's an approximation for 3/4feet from their intended target they're protecting). They would be able to use a shield or sword, but they would have to stay close to their target and would perhaps last as long as Rage does...defensive "Rage" would be like a divine barrier, Rage hybrid. My two cents anyways...however, how hard this would be to pull off, is questionable, but since both aspects have worked well in the past, I'm sure something could be done.

I don't care for it. If I see someone with a shield I will do what I can to finish them off- I would assume they are still in the fight... Is this a timed skill? Does the player die after helping?

Aww, I wish I had known about this forum when I started... I would have loved to see something like this. Like, give the defender 20 seconds of "bodyguard time", where they can stand back up, but their feet have to be planted. They can still swing a sword, although sluggishly, sort of like they've, oh I don't know, been beaten to within an inch of their lives? They don't register damage, although any legal hit would stagger them. That would lend itself nicely to playing out a dramatic last stand for the character, especially if it's used to cover a retreat, giving the enemies another speed bump to slow them down in their pursuit.

You could also throw in something like a kill rag for it, but obviously a different color, and have it be displayed to show that you are, in fact in a last stand, not just still alive.

Personally I think if you tied it into Rage itself like instead of a blitz of mad killing power you can sustain unlimited hits for you rage time and call out "Rage Defend" or something.
