SATURDAY
PRESENT STORYLINE (Year 267)
After the recent events in Clan Whiteoak territory, all of Mardrun holds its breath to see if the proud warriors of Clan Whiteoak and Clan Axhound are willing to continue with the peace talks presented to them. Although slow at first, the heroic story of brotherhood by both of the recently fallen Chieftains assigned to the outposts has spurred on others to stand down and give this a chance. After all, the mordok are the real and biggest threat facing the peoples of Mardrun. The eastern front of the Shield of Mardrun will need a bit more time to be fully secure, but the collaboration between these two Clans could prove to be the biggest victory so far in the mobilization efforts of this season.
As rumors abound as to the upcoming push into the Dirge Swamp, there is a small village in Pack Goldenfield territory that is far removed from the trials and tribulations of the conflict on the swamp's border. A small farming community has begun to form around a collective group of colonists and ulven alike. This collaborative, multi-cultural village has been spearheaded by a local ulven Chieftain. Vahness Barleyrow, Cheiftain of Pack Barleyrow, has welcomed all to join her pack and help produce crops and prepare food for the upcoming war effort. A number of colonists that visited to help with the harvest have decided to stay and "put down roots" of their own. Previously known for its quality brewed ale, this village has come to be known simply as "Barleyrow" and is a shining example of what can happen when all the peoples of Mardrun work together.
Adventurers and travelers alike have come to try a pint of Barleyrow ale, share their views of the world, help with honest hard work for the war effort, discuss future plans for themselves and others, or simply reminisce about stories of the past.
Event Story Summary...
- Clan Goldenfield helps support the war efforts by producing food. (Click here for more info on Goldenfield)
- Pack Barleyrow is a welcome place for all visitors.
- The location in the world is far away from the dangers of the Dirge Swamp.
- There may be local tasks that are optional, but most travelers do as they please.
- The month of October is a time of rest. The mobilization of forces and the construction of defenses around the swamp is complete.
- The first line of defense focused on was the "Shield of Mardrun"; a series of outposts bordering the Dirge Swamp to the north
- The next step of the larger plan of the Clans and Colonies is to take the war into the swamp in November
SUNDAY
OLD WORLD STORYLINE (Year 212)
The current year is 212 of the Commonalty Calendar. War has ravaged the continent of Faedrun for 13 years. Reports have circulated that the Syndar Kingdoms, devastated by war and taking the brunt of the initial undead forces, have slowly retreated north further into their territories for the last few years. Some kingdoms have abandoned their lands and consolidated forces as the undead plague and penitent followers continue to push into the heart of Faedrun.
The Grand Alliance is made up of a number of human and Syndar kingdoms and has stood together for the last 7 years. With its strengths come weaknesses as the different military forces and their leaders continue to try to work together as a cohesive force. The first few years had been costly, but by now enough time has passed that the Grand Alliance has been working together quite well... but the war on Faedrun is beyond the scope of anything anybody had ever imagined.
One of the military forces deployed to the Grand Alliance is the Mushalee Boluk, a "company" of soldiers under the command of the current ranking commander, the Boluk-Bashi. This specialized military unit is made up of soldiers and support personnel that are sent to deal with undead forces that have been able to cross the searing heat of the desert of the May'Kar Dominion.
Scouts have reported to the Boluk-Bashi; allied syndar forces have become aware of some sort of anomaly that appears to have been discovered in one of the Oasis' on the edges of the May'Kar Dominion. It has some of the higher ranking syndar officers concerned and the Mushalee Boluk military unit has been ordered to scout out the oasis. Reports also confirm the presence of incoming penitent forces so it appears to be a race against time to discover anything that they can...
In this Old World storyline event, players will go "back in our history" and play as one of the soldiers in the Grand Alliance or the followers of the Penitent as both camps will fight for dominance of the area throughout the day.
Event Story Summary...
- Faedrun is the continent that most people are from and it was devastated by an immense war decades ago (from our current storyline on Mardrun).
- The May'Kar Dominion is one of the human kingdoms. This event takes place 20 years before the "May'Kar Betrayal and the Risen King" (Click here for more info)
- A Boluk is a military unit similar to a company and is made up of over 100 soldiers. It is led by a Boluk-Bashi.
- The undead plague has devastated Faedrun for over a decade (Click here for more info)
- The Penitent are the still-living followers of the undead; a sort of corrupted religious faith that fights against the Grand Alliance (Click here for more info)
- The Grand Alliance is made up of human and syndar kingdoms that are fighting against the undead and the Penitent.
= EVENT SPECIAL MECHANICS =
1) Mardrun Storyline & Old World Themed Split Event
This event will be a split event.
- Saturday, October 20th, will be a "Day in the Life" styled event on the current storyline in Mardrun where players can interact and role play with each other. The focus of the first event day will be open time to allow for plenty of role play and interactions. Far away from the frontlines of war and the dirge swamp, those in attendance will be able to interact as they see fit and potentially get involved with some small local tasks.
- Sunday, October 21st will be a "Mission Oriented Combat" styled event that takes place decades in the past from our current storyline. The focus of the second event day will be an objective/mission-focused, NPC-based, heavy respawn combat event that will allow players to either play Penitent or Grand Alliance forces. Both forces will compete to accomplish objectives in order to win against the other force by the end of the event.
2) SATURDAY: Chores & Tasks
Players are welcome to freely interact and role play as they see fit, but there may be a number of chores, tasks, and to-do items that the local authorities are willing to pay silver for. However, this is NOT the focus of the event but simply an add-on to it. The focus is open time to roleplay and interact.
3) SUNDAY: Military Objectives
Players who choose to get involved in the Old World themed event on Sunday will be taking on the role of NPCs that make up one of the two forces, either Penitent or Grand Alliance. Completing objectives and fighting will be the main focus of the event. Every hour, different objectives will be made available to each of the two forces. The force that completes the most objectives and earns the most "victory points" in the area will be the winner. Some of these objectives may be focusing forces to go head to head, or present options to split forces to try to accomplish multiple objectives, or balance the need to use mobile respawn "standard bearers" and manage casualties. A commander will be chosen on each side that will be fully briefed on the missions, the points, and how to deploy special forces and utilize respawn points for the event.
4) SUNDAY: NPC Roles & Respawns
Players attending the Old World event will be assigned NPC roles. These soldiers (either Penitent or Grand Alliance) will be divided up so that each team is even to represent equal forces in the area. There will be a "Respawn" mechanic at each forces base of operations where wounded or killed soldiers will be tallied. In addition, commanders may deploy a "Standard Bearer" that will be able to move into the field and allow allied soldiers to respawn from for a certain number of reinforcements. Once depleted, this Standard will need to be brought back to base in order to be resupplied with reinforcements.
All NPCs will start with basic skills and equipment and players may choose a certain type of soldier that allows them some sort of special benefit. Players who accomplish certain objectives may expand on the skills allowed by those NPCs (which will be represented by COLORED belt favors/ties that will be lost upon death)
Base Soldier types are as follows...
Heavy Infantry
2 Hits, 0 Mana. SKILLS: Armor, Improved Armor, Shield, Improved Shield, Two Handed, Improved Two Handed
Footman - 3 Hits, 0 Mana
SKILLS: Toughness (factored in), Armor, Shield, Two Handed, Duel Wield, Respite
Scout - 2 Hits, 0 Mana
SKILLS: Armor, Shield, Archery, Thrown Weapons, Dual Wield, Improved Dual Wield, Respite
Arcane Soldier - 2 Hits, 7 Mana
SKILLS: Arcane, Mana Reserves(factored in), Armor, Shield, Staff
Divine Soldier - 2 Hits, 7 Mana
SKILLS: Divine, Mana Reserves(factored in), Armor, Shield, Staff
Support - 2 Hits, 0 Mana
SKILLS: Mend, Armor, Shield, Two Handed, Duel Wield

= CAMPING, BATHROOMS, FIRES, WATER, & ELECTRICITY =
- There is tent-camping space available at this event. There is also an AmericInn and the Edge of the Woods Motel.
- There is a porta-potty onsite in the parking area for players. If you need a bathroom facility, please plan on driving 1.3 miles back to Gas Station/Travel Mart.
- Campfires are allowed as long as they are PRE-APPROVED BY A HERALD and either in an above-ground firepit or dug into a below-ground firepit. We are planning on using a firepit during the event. Any additional fires will be strictly, enforced, monitored, and must be pre-approved.
- There is NO running water at the site.
- There is NO electricity at the site.
= REGISTRATION AREA & PLAYING FIELD INFO =

- The property boundaries to the north, west, and east are marked by GREEN flagging tape. The neighbor's driveway is also a boundary to the east. The southern boundary is the clearing leading up to the interstate.
- There are several deer stands on the property; at this time, we ask that you do not go into any of them.
- Do not cut down any trees without approval.
- Do not use adjacent driveways/neighbor property without explicit permission!
= NIGHT CONDITIONS =
This event will take place during night conditions on Saturday, October 20th.
After 7:00pm all night-time rules and glow effects are in place.
= WEATHER CONDITIONS =
Plan accordingly! We will have loaner garb for NPCs but please make sure to plan to bring extra layers to keep warm; gloves, boots, etc.
*** Base/thermal layers do not need to fit Decorum but outer layers do... please make sure you get your garb checked! PLAN ACCORDINGLY! ***
= EXPANDED NPC ROLE SIGN-UP =
There are NPC roles available during this event. If you are interested in playing an NPC role, please contact us ahead of time to let us know... see below for options.
- The "Expanded NPC Role Sign-Up Deadline" is the same cut-off as the membership Early Bird deadline (by Thursday, 10/11/18) and this will add you to the list to get a more detailed or involved NPC. This gives us time to flesh out a backstory, details, and how your NPC can impact the scenario. The staff will then email you back your detailed NPC role before the event, usually a bit after the pre-reg deadline ends.
= EARLY BIRD DISCOUNT =
- The "Early Bird Discount Deadline" is the week before the event (by Thursday, 10/11/18) and this will place you on the list to get the pre-reg meal and automatically add you to the "Faster Check-In" line, allowing you to register much quicker at the event.
= PC SKILL UPDATES =
- If you have updates to your PC, DO THEM AHEAD OF TIME AND EMAIL US THE CHANGES!!!
The deadline for these changes is the Tuesday before the event (10/16/18). You cannot do skill updates at the event and also be in the "Faster Check-In" as we prepare your card/bag/wristband/etc early in preparation of your arrival and day-of PCs can wait until after registration is complete for the majority of the player.
IF WE HAVE TIME, then we can update your PC skills. There is no guarantee we can do this at an event due to the registration time needs.
= LATE PLAYERS =
We are following a strict time-block for check-in/registration so players will be expected to arrive on time to get registered and then attend the game briefing. This helps us make sure we stay on time and keep the game starting when we need it to. If a player is going to be late and they are going to arrive after registration closes, they are expected to notify the staff by emailing the lasthopelarp@gmail.com address to let us know. This allows us to pull the PC cards and info and prepare their items for when they arrive. Failure to do this will result in an exp penalty if a player arrives after reg closes but before the briefing, or a forced NPC role if the player arrives after the briefing. This does not mean we do not have wiggle room; all you have to do is notify us ahead of time via email so we can prepare accordingly.
= RESOURCE & LORE SKILL USAGE =
Players may have a PC(s) use a Resource skill to make an impact on an event but only if they are planning on attending the upcoming event.
Resource Usage for this event needs to be submitted VIA EMAIL no later than midnight on 10/5/18. Information gained from this Resource usage will be available at Check-In at the event; IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO ASK FOR THAT INFO! Players should please try to make sure they are going to be in attendance before sending in their Resource usage.
This is also a reminder to ask about Lore cards at check-in! Frequently, there are Lore cards available for you to read that represent your characters ability to know about things going on in the area. Some of this information can be really useful to know!
= MANDATORY CHECK-OUT =
All players are required to properly check-out at every event. Make sure you plan on doing this by seeking out a Herald to turn in your PC card and relevant game props along with you and your equipment's condition.
We will be doing a Check-Out after each day so that players can turn in their items.
If you checkout as a PC, you may not "check back in" after a period of time. Once you check out as a PC, your PC is done for the event day.
There may be limitations on how and where PCs can check out at an event; ask instead of assuming if you feel like your PC would leave early, and then staff can assign you a role after that.
