== STORY INFO & SPECIAL MECHANICS ==
However, the location is an important one to some of the "locals". Periodically, a fairly large group of people from all corners of Mardrun slither out of their homes or hiding places and congregate in a short-term market faire. Farm fields come to life with tents, travelers, merchants, and debauchery. Anyone who is anyone in the underworld or black market of Mardrun attends or is represented at these affairs. Short lived and always a secret before they spring up, these "black market faires" are legal enough to avoid a heavy hand from the City-State of Newhope but a closer look reveals the many dealings that go on here. Anything from legitimate merchants, to thug bands, to smuggling wares could be expected at this kind of meet-up.
Who knows what one might learn or experience at the black market faire... but one thing is for certain. Attendees had best watch their coin purses, their luck, and their backs should they be brave (or foolish) enough to make an appearance.
Event Story Summary...
= EVENT SPECIAL MECHANICS =
1) Black Market Faire
Saturday night's event theme is specifically reserved for the seedier, dirtier, and more adult themed part of our game. There WILL be a higher amount of swearing, lewd commentary, suggestive things, and adult themed situations. It is up to the players to decide whether to attend an event with this kind of theme or not. This scenario may not be suitable for all players. Staff will be on hand to monitor this portion of the event and make sure player concerns are addressed. We are not going to limit players based on age from attending the scenario as it will still follow our core rules of Last Hope for adult themes, tobacco use, and alcohol use... but anyone under the age of 16 is strongly recommended to be accompanied by an adult. However, there may be certain tents or areas that are marked as 18+ or 21+ and all players will need to respect these boundaries (out-of-game as players... NOT just in-game as characters). However, this event is not a "free for all" to get drunk or push the limits of the rules... but instead allow us to explore the darker part of our game world a bit more.
This scenario would be a great time to use your Resources such as Gather Info, Spies, or Black market!
2) Tournaments
Players may sign-up for tournaments for the day on Sunday. This will be broken down into 2 main blocks:
CONTEST - These will be martial tournaments.
SKILL - These will be gambling and/or game tournaments.
More info will be released once the format is finalized.
3) In-Game Security & Guards
Both scenarios, the black market faire and the regular market faire, will feature a faire taking place in a settlement or community. For both of these scenarios, any player attempting to "leave the event area" will be subject to mechanics used to determine if they are caught or they get away if they are being pursued. Some skills or abilities may assist in this, but both of these events involve the players best interest being to "relatively keep the peace" lest the nearby off-screen security forces get involved.
== EVENT INFO ==
= PRE-REG FOOD & DRINKING WATER =
Players will NOT be provided meals at this event.
We will NOT be providing feastware for the meals; please make sure you bring feastware!
There will be some water brought in for use during the event, but players should also plan to bring their own and carry it with them.
*** You should plan on bringing some extra food/snacks and water to tide you over for the rest of the event. ***
** Plan ahead, be self sufficient, and bring your own food/water! ***
= CAMPING, BATHROOMS, FIRES, WATER, & ELECTRICITY =
- There is limited tent-camping space available at this event. If you need a motel, there is an AmericInn and the Edge of the Woods Motel nearby
- There is a porta-potty onsite in the parking area for players. If you need a bathroom facility, please plan on driving 1.3 miles back to Gas Station.
- Campfires are allowed as long as they are PRE-APPROVED BY A HERALD and either in an above-ground firepit or dug into a below-ground firepit. We are planning on using a firepit during the event. Any additional fires will be strictly, enforced, monitored, and must be pre-approved.
- There is NO running water at the site.
- There is NO electricity at the site.
= PLAYING FIELD INFO & SAFETY =
New Lisbon, WI
- The entrance to the property is flanked by several driveways we (might) have permission to park on if needed. Please check-in or get directions before you park. You are allowed to park on the road as an overflow but you MUST park on our side of a road, try to keep the entire vehicle off the road, and minimize foot traffic on the road.
- The property boundaries to the north, west, and east are marked by GREEN flagging tape. The neighbor's driveway is also a boundary to the east. The southern boundary is the clearing leading up to the interstate.
- There are several deer stands on the property; at this time, we ask that you do not go into any of them.
- Do not cut down any trees without approval.
- Do not use adjacent driveways/neighbor property without explicit permission!
= NIGHT CONDITIONS =
The Saturday night Black Market Faire event will take place entirely during night-time conditions. Arrows and magic must be prepared accordingly with illumination devices.
The Market Faire on Sunday will not take place during night-time conditions.
= WEATHER CONDITIONS =
This event is in July, so plan accordingly! It will most likely be hot during the day; traditionally late-July events have been very warm.
Players setting up market stalls for the event should plan accordingly for sun, wind, and rain conditions as necessary.
Make sure to bring BUG SPRAY and SUN BLOCK as needed.
*** Base/thermal layers do not need to fit Decorum but outer layers do... please make sure you get your garb checked! PLAN ACCORDINGLY! ***
***NOTE: Because of the still-flooded condition of the property, we are assuming the property will be fairly mucky and the parking lot not accessible. If needed, we will plan on shuttling players back to the nearby gas station to park vehicles and then get shuttled back to the event property.
= EXPANDED NPC ROLE SIGN-UP =
There are NPC roles available during this event. If you are interested in playing an NPC role, please contact us ahead of time to let us know... see below for options.
- The "Expanded NPC Role Sign-Up Deadline" is the same cut-off as the membership Early Bird deadline (by Thursday, 7/11/19) and this will add you to the list to get a more detailed or involved NPC. This gives us time to flesh out a backstory, details, and how your NPC can impact the scenario. The staff will then email you back your detailed NPC role before the event, usually a bit after the pre-reg deadline ends.
= EARLY BIRD DISCOUNT =
- The "Early Bird Discount Deadline" is the week before the event (by Thursday, 7/11/19) and this will place you on the pre-reg list and automatically add you to the "Faster Check-In" line, allowing you to register much quicker at the event.
= PC SKILL UPDATES =
- If you have updates to your PC, DO THEM AHEAD OF TIME AND EMAIL US THE CHANGES!!!
The deadline for these changes is the Tuesday before the event (7/11/19). You cannot do skill updates at the event and also be in the "Faster Check-In" as we prepare your card/bag/wristband/etc early in preparation of your arrival and day-of PCs can wait until after registration is complete for the majority of the player.
IF WE HAVE TIME, then we can update your PC skills. There is no guarantee we can do this at an event due to the registration time needs.
= LATE PLAYERS =
We are following a strict time-block for check-in/registration so players will be expected to arrive on time to get registered and then attend the game briefing. This helps us make sure we stay on time and keep the game starting when we need it to. If a player is going to be late and they are going to arrive after registration closes, they are expected to notify the staff by emailing the lasthopelarp@gmail.com address to let us know. This allows us to pull the PC cards and info and prepare their items for when they arrive. Failure to do this will result in an exp penalty if a player arrives after reg closes but before the briefing, or a forced NPC role if the player arrives after the briefing. This does not mean we do not have wiggle room; all you have to do is notify us ahead of time via email so we can prepare accordingly.
= RESOURCE & LORE SKILL USAGE =
Players may have a PC(s) use a Resource skill to make an impact on an event but only if they are planning on attending the upcoming event.
Resource Usage for this event needs to be submitted VIA EMAIL no later than midnight on 7/5/19.
Extensions are being granted out to 7/10/19 if needed; simply email us at lasthopelarp@gmail.com and let us know you need an extension.
Information gained from this Resource usage will be available at Check-In at the event.
IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO ASK FOR THAT INFO!
Players should please try to make sure they are going to be in attendance before sending in their Resource usage.
This is also a reminder to ask about Lore cards at check-in! Frequently, there are Lore cards available for you to read that represent your characters ability to know about things going on in the area. Some of this information can be really useful to know!
= MANDATORY CHECK-OUT =
All players are required to properly check-out at every event. Make sure you plan on doing this by seeking out a Herald to turn in your PC card and relevant game props along with you and your equipment's condition.
We will be doing a Check-Out after each day so that players can turn in their items.
If you checkout as a PC, you may not "check back in" after a period of time. Once you check out as a PC, your PC is done for the event day.
There may be limitations on how and where PCs can check out at an event; ask instead of assuming if you feel like your PC would leave early, and then staff can assign you a role after that.

== STORY INFO & SPECIAL MECHANICS ==
SATURDAY - 9pm to Midnight
Haven Black Market Faire
On the outskirts of City-State territory lies the settlement of "Haven". This settlement, formerly both the home of the pirates of Oarsmeet and the nomads of Featherfall, is usually quiet. Farmers and colonists who tried to make a living by traveling to start a settlement with these groups have stayed in the area even when those groups and their leaders are long gone. Renamed apparently as a joke, both by farmers looking to start a new life and by those of questionable reputation, this settlement is usually quiet for most of the year.Haven Black Market Faire
However, the location is an important one to some of the "locals". Periodically, a fairly large group of people from all corners of Mardrun slither out of their homes or hiding places and congregate in a short-term market faire. SUNDAY - 11am to 4pm
Crow's Landing Market Faire
With the continued expansion of City-State influence, the territories of the City-State of Newhope are constantly busy. Travelers, ambassadors, and merchants move throughout the lands to different places for different agendas. The recent commotion in Silvers Crossing gained a lot of attention as Manuel, local leader of the settlement, was chosen to become the next in line for a Title of Peerage to solidify the City-States control of the lands around it. Rumors abound as political advisers, judicial arbiters, and City-State stewards are all seen in the area pushing for their own influence. With recent events seeing several impromptu civil trials being conducted, it appears as if the route of a Judge seems to be in Manuel's future. However, opposition is fierce as others either push for influence or attempt to undermine what is being built. One thing is for certain; the world that these major players are involved in has just gotten a lot bigger and plans are being made to travel to other parts of the City-State.

As the City-State of Newhope's influence grows, so do concerns over their ambitions. Rumors abound regarding the supposed "deal" being worked out with the leaders in Starkhaven. Will this large colony bend the knee? Will they remain independent and just outside the grasp of the City-State? Are tensions mounting to possible conflict in the future? These concerns trickle down to other independent settlements in the region which has brought everyone's attention to the settlement of Crow's Landing, home to the faction of the Rangers of Crow's Landing. A petition to host this years annual market faire was expected to be denied... but has been approved and will soon be the focus of many City-State and colonial officials. What is normally an economic event of bringing many people together could turn into the "game board" of many players in the political game. Will the City-State continue its ambitions and push for these independent settlements to swear fealty?
Regardless of the political game being played, this year's market faire celebration should be a welcome event for many with games, food, and social interactions of all kinds.
