== STORY INFO & SPECIAL MECHANICS ==
SATURDAY
As the month of the final harvests before winter fast approaches, the allied army of the Ulven clans and some colonial forces have been assembling at the Shield of Mardrun. These outpost fortifications have finished completion and Mardrun finally has a solid defensive line against the mordok of the Dirge Swamp in the north. Clanleaders, Warleaders, and aspiring Chieftains have all gathered at different points in the Shield to discuss tactics and a plan for taking the war into the Dirge Swamp. Most of this year has been in preparation for this moment.
Suddenly, the morning of the chosen day to kick off this military campaign begins. Well over three thousand warriors and soldiers, along with their supporting wagons and support personnel, move away from the safety of the Shield of Mardrun. They march, the largest combined forces of the Ulven clans that Mardrun has ever seen, into the swamp. This sizable army dwarfs even the forces gathered at the Battle of Pyre Hills some years ago, the final battle that ended the Ulven civil war. Whether or not enough forces or preparation has been done to see this campaign to victory has yet to be seen.
The minor tribes of the Mordok and wandering scavengers are driven back or defeated effortlessly. They are simply no match for an army of this size. The march is slow as the muck and the swamp are just as much of an enemy as the Mordok. Suitable base camp locations are a struggle to find for a group this large, forcing the army to split into smaller groups at night and then rejoin on the march. The initial bravado of finally taking the fight to the Mordok begins to sour as the logistics to do so begin to add up and take its toll. However, the Ulven committed to this cause do not waver easily and continue to press on, deeper than any known Ulven has pushed before.
This conquest does not go unnoticed. After days of struggling travel and taking of territory, the Mordok resistance begins to pick up. Larger groups of Mordok begin to harass and skirmish the Ulven forces. The pressure begins to intensify as the Mordok presence never seems to waver. Then suddenly, as the sun breaks through the dawn of one morning, the Ulven camps can hear horns in the distance. With the dawn comes an immense Mordok force, more organized and much larger than any Ulven alive has ever seen. They march, like a black tide, and have come to meet the Ulven army who has dared to invade their homeland. The Ulven forces and their allies brace for brutal conflict and begin to balance their forces and issue orders.
In this Dirge Swamp combat event, players will be part of a small section of this large Ulven army and be tasked with objectives that must be completed to see the Ulven army push towards victory. As the frost of the morning begins to give way to the snow, no one is foolish enough to think that this will be an easy winter.
Event Story Summary...
- The first line of defense, previously focused on, was the "Shield of Mardrun"; a series of outposts bordering the Dirge Swamp to the north
.
- The next step of the larger plan of the Clans and Colonies is to take the war into the swamp.
- Navigating the swamp with such a large force with supplies is very difficult.
- This Ulven force is the largest army the Ulven have put together in known history.
- The Mordok have assembled in a large enough force to oppose the Ulven army pushing into the swamp.
- The battles to come will be decisive and set the pace for the remaining months of conflict in throughout the winter.
= EVENT SPECIAL MECHANICS =
1) Exit Point
Because of the dangerous nature of this event, any players that do not leave the field through the designated "exit point" will be forced to roll on a "Survival" chart to see if they make it out of the area safely or if they are damaged, wounded, captured... or worse. Some survival based skills (Like Lore:Survival or Lore:Tactics) might give you a bonus to this roll as well as any Resource usage that is done preemptively for the event.
Should a player choose to retreat, they will coordinate with heralds and staff about how to reenter the game as an NPC.
2) Combat, Mission Oriented Themed Event
To simulate the fact that the combined forces of the ulven and some of their colonial allies are taking the fight into the swamp and are on the move, we will not be using the outpost for this event. A small wayside camp will be created on the trail that will be used for the "forward camp" of the military forces in the area, far removed from the defenses of the walls and structures of the Shield of Mardrun. The goal will be to take the fight to the mordok and complete combat based objectives; if enough are completed, then the players will be victorious and the campaign in the dirge swamp will continue forward. The exact nature of these mission objectives will be given to the military camp personnel at the event but you can be certain that it will be driving mordok from areas or decisively defeating them in combat.
3) Sunday Larp-Land Work Day
On Sunday, November 11th we will be putting together a work day out on the New Lisbon property. We will be felling trees, clearing trails, building things needed, or clearing more parking spaces. There will be a list of items that can be worked on by those that wish to help out.
This day will award 3 exp instead of the standard 2 exp for attendance.
== EVENT INFO ==
= PRE-REG FOOD & DRINKING WATER =
Pre-registered members will be provided a small meal on Saturday. Only pre-registered members (PCs & NPCs) will be added to the list for food as this helps us plan ahead of time.
*** You should plan on bringing some extra food and snacks to tide you over for the rest of the event. ***
We will NOT be providing feastware for the meals (which will be in-game); please make sure you bring feastware!
There will be some water brought in for use during the event, but players should also plan to bring their own and carry it with them.
** Plan ahead, be self sufficient, and bring your own food/water! ***
= CAMPING, BATHROOMS, FIRES, WATER, & ELECTRICITY =
- There is tent-camping space available at this event Saturday night if needed. If you need a motel, there is an AmericInn and the Edge of the Woods Motel.
- There is a porta-potty onsite in the parking area for players. If you need a bathroom facility, please plan on driving 1.3 miles back to Gas Station.
- Campfires are allowed as long as they are PRE-APPROVED BY A HERALD and either in an above-ground firepit or dug into a below-ground firepit. We are planning on using a firepit during the event. Any additional fires will be strictly, enforced, monitored, and must be pre-approved.
- There is NO running water at the site.
- There is NO electricity at the site.
= REGISTRATION AREA & PLAYING FIELD INFO =
New Lisbon, WI
- The entrance to the property is flanked by several driveways we (might) have permission to park on if needed. Please check-in or get directions before you park. You are allowed to park on the road as an overflow but you MUST park on our side of a road, try to keep the entire vehicle off the road, and minimize foot traffic on the road.
- The property boundaries to the north, west, and east are marked by GREEN flagging tape. The neighbor's driveway is also a boundary to the east. The southern boundary is the clearing leading up to the interstate.
- There are several deer stands on the property; at this time, we ask that you do not go into any of them.
- Do not cut down any trees without approval.
- Do not use adjacent driveways/neighbor property without explicit permission!

= NIGHT CONDITIONS =
This event will not take place during night conditions.
= WEATHER CONDITIONS =
Plan accordingly! We will have loaner garb for NPCs but please make sure to plan to bring extra layers to keep warm; gloves, boots, etc.
*** Base/thermal layers do not need to fit Decorum but outer layers do... please make sure you get your garb checked! PLAN ACCORDINGLY! ***
= EXPANDED NPC ROLE SIGN-UP =
There are NPC roles available during this event. If you are interested in playing an NPC role, please contact us ahead of time to let us know... see below for options.
- The "Expanded NPC Role Sign-Up Deadline" is the same cut-off as the membership Early Bird deadline (by Thursday, 11/1/18) and this will add you to the list to get a more detailed or involved NPC. This gives us time to flesh out a backstory, details, and how your NPC can impact the scenario. The staff will then email you back your detailed NPC role before the event, usually a bit after the pre-reg deadline ends.
= EARLY BIRD DISCOUNT =
- The "Early Bird Discount Deadline" is the week before the event (by Thursday, 11/1/18) and this will place you on the list to get the pre-reg meal and automatically add you to the "Faster Check-In" line, allowing you to register much quicker at the event.
= PC SKILL UPDATES =
- If you have updates to your PC, DO THEM AHEAD OF TIME AND EMAIL US THE CHANGES!!!
The deadline for these changes is the Tuesday before the event (11/6/18). You cannot do skill updates at the event and also be in the "Faster Check-In" as we prepare your card/bag/wristband/etc early in preparation of your arrival and day-of PCs can wait until after registration is complete for the majority of the player.
IF WE HAVE TIME, then we can update your PC skills. There is no guarantee we can do this at an event due to the registration time needs.
= LATE PLAYERS =
We are following a strict time-block for check-in/registration so players will be expected to arrive on time to get registered and then attend the game briefing. This helps us make sure we stay on time and keep the game starting when we need it to. If a player is going to be late and they are going to arrive after registration closes, they are expected to notify the staff by emailing the lasthopelarp@gmail.com address to let us know. This allows us to pull the PC cards and info and prepare their items for when they arrive. Failure to do this will result in an exp penalty if a player arrives after reg closes but before the briefing, or a forced NPC role if the player arrives after the briefing. This does not mean we do not have wiggle room; all you have to do is notify us ahead of time via email so we can prepare accordingly.

= RESOURCE & LORE SKILL USAGE =
Players may have a PC(s) use a Resource skill to make an impact on an event but only if they are planning on attending the upcoming event.
Resource Usage for this event needs to be submitted VIA EMAIL no later than midnight on 11/5/18. Information gained from this Resource usage will be available at Check-In at the event; IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO ASK FOR THAT INFO! Players should please try to make sure they are going to be in attendance before sending in their Resource usage.
This is also a reminder to ask about Lore cards at check-in! Frequently, there are Lore cards available for you to read that represent your characters ability to know about things going on in the area. Some of this information can be really useful to know!
= MANDATORY CHECK-OUT =
All players are required to properly check-out at every event. Make sure you plan on doing this by seeking out a Herald to turn in your PC card and relevant game props along with you and your equipment's condition.
We will be doing a Check-Out after each day so that players can turn in their items.
If you checkout as a PC, you may not "check back in" after a period of time. Once you check out as a PC, your PC is done for the event day.
There may be limitations on how and where PCs can check out at an event; ask instead of assuming if you feel like your PC would leave early, and then staff can assign you a role after that.
