== EVENT INFO ==
= TRAVEL BASED EVENT =
Any players planning on coming to the January event should take extra care to plan accordingly for the weather and being outside for a number of hours. This event is designed to be a "hiking/travel/expedition" event. This means that the group of adventurers coming to this event will be mobile and moving around the property. This is both for warmth (everyone will keep moving to stay warm) and for ease of equipment (there is no "town" setup in this event). This is also because of the parking situation; there is a good chance that vehicles will need to be parked at the road and everyone will have to walk up the driveway into the event. Everyone is encouraged to pack their belongings in sacks/bags/backpacks or on a sled/travois so they can carry them on/with them throughout the event... both in-game and out-of-game!
In this event, players will partake in an expedition far north into the frigid Dirge Swamp, tasked with exploring different places on a map and seeing how much ground they can cover before attempting to return to safety.
= FOOD AND WATER =
All players will be fed a small meal on Saturday via trail rations but it will NOT be enough to stay fed all day. Players must bring extra food as well!
Some water will be provided onsite and be available for drinking, but players must bring their own water!
Players are responsible for their own feasting and drinking ware. However, for this event, players will not need any feastware in order to be able to eat the event-provided trail rations.
= WEATHER =
January in Wisconsin is COLD! Drink water, eat food, wear extra layers, wear a good hat, good gloves, good boots, etc. Snow will not stop the event but we will cancel if we get heavy snow or sub-zero temperatures. If you do not think that you can handle bundling up with all of your gear and being exposed to the cold in January and go hiking for 4-6 hours, then this may not be the event for you. We don't want to exclude anyone from participating; we just want to be honest about the conditions of the event. We will not have access to buildings or heated structures but if run into an emergency, we will use vehicles for heat if needed.
= CAMPFIRES =
We intend to build a fire on the property for players to use. This might be lit during a stopping/resting point or just somewhere on the trail. We will not have any buildings, like the outpost, so this will most likely just be a fire built out of fallen timber and dry fire wood along the side of the trail. Feel free to bring additional firewood to add to the pile if you would like a longer/larger fire. Since this is a travel based event, we have no actual plans for a fire and are keeping it as an option.
= ROCK SPRINGS INFO =
Since the property is land locked, the driveway you use to get to the field is NOT ours... it is the neighbors. Respect their land and CLOSE THE GATE after you go through it from the road.
- There is NO running water or electricity on this location.
- No hunting stands, towers, or buildings may be used unless designated as approved.
- Players must not disturb any planted gardens or food plots on the land.
- There are honey bee hives on the property but are located far away from where players will normally be at. If you are allergic, be advised that there will be a higher chance of running into honey bees at the field.
- Garbage must be picked up and thrown away in trash cans or taken back with you, DO NOT THROW GARBAGE INTO FIRE PITS!
- Players must be respectful to the property; no peeling out or digging up ruts with vehicles. DRIVE AS CAREFULLY AS POSSIBLE ON THE DRIVEWAY!
= CAMPING & BATHROOM INFO =
There is no running water or electricity at this location. There will be an outhouse available for use, we ask that guys use their "Man Perk" and pee in the woods so the outhouse doesn't fill up too fast. DO NOT USE THE TOILET AS A GARBAGE!
The area directly around the outhouse is considered out of game so players may go to the bathroom in peace; this will be marked. There is also access to a gas station about 5 minutes away in Rock Springs, WI which has a bathroom.
There is no camping available at this event.
There will be NO running water at this event. We will have some water to provide to players, but YOU MUST BRING YOUR OWN DRINKING/CAMPING WATER! Be self sufficient.
= NIGHT GAME =
This game does not feature night-fighting conditions; no night-game supplies are needed.
= NPC ROLE PRE-REG / FASTER CHECK-IN =
There are several NPC roles and monster roles available during this event. If you are interested in playing an NPC role, please contact us ahead of time to let us know.
Anyone who emails us 2 weeks prior to the event (by Sunday, 1/7/17) will earn 5 exp instead of 3 exp for their NPC role and will be added to the list to get a more detailed/involved NPC role.
Any players that pre-reg for an NPC role early are also added to the faster check-in line for the event.
= PC PRE-REG / FASTER CHECK-IN / LATE PLAYERS =
Players that pre-reg as their PC by emailing us ahead of time will be added to our pre-reg list, allowing you a faster check-in.
*** The deadline for this pre-reg is the same date as the resource usage; the Wednesday before the event no later than Midnight, 1/18/17.***
Email us at lasthopelarp@gmail.com with your name and PC name to be added to the pre-reg/faster check-in list. If you have updates to your PC, DO THEM AHEAD OF TIME, you cannot do skill updates and the faster check-in as we prepare your card/bag/wristband/etc early in preparation of your arrival.
We are following a stricter time-block for check-in/registration moving forward, so players will be expected to arrive on time to get registered and then attend the game briefing. Too many times players arrive late and it delays the entire game; this is not fair to players who arrive on time. This also creates an issue as the staff need to pack-up the registration supplies and move onto running the game, not waiting around for an hour or two for stragglers. If a player is going to be late and they are going to arrive after registration closes, they are expected to notify the staff by emailing the lasthopelarp@gmail.com address to let us know. This allows us to pull the PC cards and info and prepare their items for when they arrive. Failure to do this will result in an exp penalty if a player arrives after reg closes but before the briefing, or a forced NPC role if the player arrives after the briefing. This does not mean we do not have wiggle room; all you have to do is notify us ahead of time via email (NOT FACEBOOK MESSAGES TO INDIVIDUAL STAFF! The staff will make it a norm to check the email during registration) so we can prepare accordingly.
= RESOURCE USAGE DEADLINE =
Resource Usage for this event needs to be submitted no later than midnight, Wednesday 1/18/17. Information gained from this Resource usage will be available at Check-In at the event or emailed back to them. See the Resource skill in the 1.4 rulebook on how to use it and email us at lasthopelarp@gmail.com
= MANDATORY CHECK-OUT =
We are trying to make it a normal practice that all players properly check-out at every event. Make sure you plan on doing this by seeking out a Herald to turn in your PC card and relevant game props along with you and your equipment's condition.
== STORY ==
Bolstered by the success of the August expedition and encouraged by the information it brought back, the Marquess Madeline d’Argent has once again raised funding and material support for an excursion deep into the Dirge Swamp. However, this time it will take place during a time when expeditions have not been sent... in the dead of winter.
Simultaneous expeditions will set out from the Order of Arnath controlled village of Serai, the Clan Shattered Spear village of Direguard, the Pack Longfang village of Onsallas, and the Whiteoak village of Salthollow. These four expeditions will jointly endeavor to locate the safest routes through the southern reaches of the swamp, and will attempt to chart northern areas if able. She has put out a call that those of exceptional talent who wish glory, adventure, and silver should meet with her forces going north from Onsallas Village. This expedition will travel first to the Pack Blackwing outpost where they will regroup and push further north. They will be tasked with gathering information on the winter habits of the Mordok as well as their primary task of charting the north-central region of the Dirge Swamp. The Marquess has also advertised for ships and crews willing to round the northern end of Mardrun and create detailed charts of the shoreline and any possible landings north of the swamp. Additional bounties are being offered to crews willing to put in at the two suspected landings to the northeast and northwest of the Dirge and field exploratory units of their own to determine what lies beyond the shore.
As the mordok presence continues to be a threat to the northern borders of Ulven territory even as the snow begins to fall in earnest, these expeditions have the chance to venture into areas previously untouched by ulven or colonist alike. However, these four small expeditions have drawn negative attention from around the continent... some feel that these dangerous expeditions will become suicidal in the frigid conditions and the resources and manpower put into them are better suited to working on other obstacles.
