So is there a place I can find the trade manuals? I'm looking into healing specifically.

i personally would like to see people with a trade to put in a little more effort with the tools and role play. what i mean is take blacksmithing for example. traditionally a blacksmith made weapons/armor/tools/parts/and all sorts of metal items. they would spend hours of dedication into crafting things. i would love to see a black smith actually pounding on a piece of steal for a while. or take their time on doing an actual job. I'm only really focusing on blacksmith because i do real metal work and smithing in real life and i know first hand that armor repair and weapon forging isn't a task thats done in 15 minutes. I'm playing a blacksmith and I'm building a portable forge, bork bench, anvil, and grinder to bring to games. I'm bringing most of the things that a professional blacksmith would have.
now i realize that not every one is willing to put that much dedication into the trades but i'd like to see a definite difference from a Healer than someone who is doing first-aid or a blacksmith than from someone doing mend. i sometimes see a "blacksmith" just taping on a small piece of metal with a tooling hammer and thats just not as convincing as someone who really takes their time and spends like 30 minutes at what they are doing.
I would like to give Ryan Jopp full credit and applause for the dedication he puts into his healing trade when he plays Thorand. same to Mischelle and Red Queen when they'er running the taverns. This is the lvl of dedication i would like to see more of. also i love what Shelly and Diana do when they are playing their blacksmiths, mages, clerics, and all of the other roles. i've seen you two bring in props to play with but you have also just brought satchels full of stuff and or a bed roll that contained everything your trade called for. this was a very cool way to make a very convincing trade without spending a fortune on props and gear.
my only main point is i would love to see a lot of role play when preforming an actual trade.

I really like the idea of very general starting points that get progressively more specialized.
As for requiring more rp for while using the trade skill...I'm torn on that one.
On the plus side it really adds to immersion.
On the downside there's a limited amount of time at events, and I've never been a fan of requiring time to do anything at events. What if someone takes a trade skill as something to flesh out their character and to be their "day job"? The kind of places in the "game world" events generally happen at aren't that conducive to many trades anyway.
People that go the extra mile should get something extra though. Maybe heralds in camp can give out extra xp to really dedicated crafters?

Also, we've had WAY too many caravan/walking events lately... I enjoy them as a player, but just carrying enough water at events like that can be grueling. I'm proud of the level of immersion our trade gear is at (even though we still need a forge), but it means Rhodi's blacksmith kit weighs 40 pounds (and has fixed armor for reals at events - mostly loose grommets and rings, but still)... that's not coming with us on a walking event. Someone would get hurt, trying to pick up/set down that thing in a hurry. For us, less immersion & smaller tools would be great... I'm keeping my eye out for cheap jeweler's anvils and old-looking pliers partly for that reason. 'Cause seriously, you should be able to fully repair maille in the field, and the tools to do that could fit into a pouch pretty easily.

so would that mean in the field he could fully repair chain, but only partialy repair plate if he had a smaller kit? I fully agree that lugging 40 lbs of stuff is a lot on a hike.

Yup. Not that a thing like that is currently covered in the rules, but adding a Maille Only Kit (or maille and leather and bows) clause to the blacksmithing rules would make I think *everyone's* day, seeing how quickly we tend to hit the "can't mend this any more" level at walking events. Especially since we're also looking to upgrade from the little round anvil to a 15lb ferrier's anvil (they're on sale at Harbor Freight, as are the 50-pounders).
